Go MAD Giveaway

Andy Gilbert, Group Managing Director of Go MAD Thinking, entered the Poker Face TV quiz show to demonstrate the power of the Go MAD Thinking System. From over 10,000 people he successfully made the final three. Now he has decided to make a difference and give away his £65,000 prize winnings to help 1,000 people with £65 each.

However, you cannot ask for money to help yourself or support other charity fundraising, religious or political activities. This blog is about challenging you to use your thinking skills to make a positive difference, preferably sustainable, and help others to "Pay It Forward". What difference could you make? Please post your requests and comments.

Dear Andy,

I would like to express my interest in your £65 giveaway. My 14 year-old sister, Emma, is looking to initiate her own jewellery making business. I was interested in your giveaway as the money would allow her to purchase initial supplies and tools to make an effective start at the business.

Prospectively, when she makes the money back, she would give it to the school that she attends, in order to set up an enterprise workshop, and this in turn, would allow the other students to learn and benefit in order to make their own differences in the future.

Thank you, Samantha Brown.

Hi Samantha,

Yes I will give you £65 to help your sister set up her jewellery making business. I also like the "pay it forward" aspect to help others.

I am very supportive of helping young people develop their business skills. E-mail me your contact details and I will send you a cheque for £65 plus one of my books which will help your sister to achieve her goals.

jrlancs,

Thanks for your positive comments about the podcasts. Listen out for the one this week - it is about how to win £65,000!

As you were the first to respond to my blog post, you can have £65 to make a difference - as long as it will help someone else. Let me know what you will do with it.

Hi Andy,

I work for TOPSHOP and you can guess how busy we get. Ive been so busy I have never (in 3 years) taken any time out to sit down with just my 3 deputy managers together outside work and discuss their ideas and thoughts to improve the business and spend some time together.

I think it will be great to take them out of the store to a meal and ask for their ideas. I would like to use the money toward this meal.

This is totaly unlike my usual 'Red' style and should really Motivate them and make them feel more valued.

We should get some great ideas to!

Thanks,

John

Dear Andy,

I manage a mental health service in Nottingham. The service users who live at our service have often experienced long periods of institutionalisation and the team here works with the individuals to enable them to turn their lives around and build a more independent future for themselves.

We currently have a number of service users who have interest and talent in art. We would really like to set up an art group which would enable them to have an outlet for self expression and to produce a piece of work that they would really feel proud of.

£65 would really help us to buy art materials to set this group up and to start this exciting new project up.

I really hope that you can help us and look forward to hearing from you.

Regards - Gaye Flounders

Gaye,

£65 is yours to help set up the art group and help your service users make a difference. Once you have got going, let me know and I will willing pay your group an additional £65 to produce a piece of art on the theme of "Making A Difference", which I will display in my office.

best wishes

Andy

Hi Andy,

As a committed Christian I have to say that what you're doing is awesome! The bible tells us to give to God of our tithes and offerings. A tithe means 10%. So each month I give 10% of my earnings to my local church (the tithe) and a further 10% of my earnings (offering) to great causes. And you know what .. I just keep getting it back. But not the same amount I gave .. much much more. Giving is a 'kingdom principle'. In other words if you give, God HAS to give back to you. Luke 6:38 says 'Give and it WILL come back to you; a good measure pressed down, shaken together and running over'. All throughout the Bible we are told NOT to test God, HOWEVER there is one verse in the bible that tells us we can test him and its connected to giving and receiving. So I'm asking you to give me £65. From this I will tithe £6.50 to my local church and the rest I will give to a project they are involved in to help prostitutes in Nottingham (the project is called Jericho Road. They take women off the streets and feed them, clothe them and let them use a shower to clean up). The shower is broken but I am believing that by giving all this money away, that God will supply the £1000 plus required to allow them to build a new one. So what do you think? Are you willing to allow me to put God to the test on this one???
Kind regards
Kate (Nottingham)

If your not willing on the prostitute issue/testing God, another idea is to give all the money to my friend's son who is 10 and a definite entrepreneur - like his father! He mixes words/talks etc to music. At the moment he is quoting scripture over cool vibes for little children to listen to and I would love him to market this idea to sell in the churches around Nottingham. He would need the money to purchase blank CD's and get a CD cover designed (for a cheap price by my Christian husband who is a minister but also trained in Graphic design)!
Look forward to hearing from you.
Kate (Nottingham).

Andy,
I try, wherever possible to help a local charity called "Leicester charity link" who make small donations to the most needy people in our city. Often victims os abusers, or illness, the authorities slow wheels of help can't help quickly enough and £65 could buy a bed for a child that would otherwise have slept on a floor. This charity has a unique ability through pulling down funds from other charities to boost every Pound it's given by five times! So if you'd like to make your donation work harder and really pay forward can I suggest you look at donating a £65 a week for a year??? THese guys could make that donation into£16900 and help so many needy local families that will go on to build our county in the future by the charity they were shown here in their lowest hour.
Thanks alot.

Hi Kate,

Thank you for your comments and taking the time to respond to this blog. I have decided not to support cases relating to, or promoting, religious causes or beliefs (of any faith).

Whilst I am a big fan of "involving others" as a key success principle, I will choose to decline your invitation of "putting God to the test". This £65 giveaway is aimed at putting people's thinking to the test and challenging them to put a bit of effort into making a difference by thinking possibilities and taking personal responsibility.

I am also supportive of helping young people pursue their entrepeneurial ambitions - albeit not to promote religion. My suggestion is that you could possibly persuade your entrepeneurial friend to support his own son, without the need for my contribution.

Keep thinking.

Best wishes

Andy

Hi Gary,

Well done on supporting this Charity - it looks worthwhile and interesting.I will explore it further at the weekend in view of the fivefold drawdown capability you mention.

I have previously made a decision not to support existing charities ( see earlier postings relating to marathon sponsorship and encouraging people to use their thinking skills) to avoid being swamped by requests to just give the money to peoples favourite charity.

However, thank you for drawing it to my attention..

Keep making a difference.

Hello Andy,

would you consider funding the "Go Mad Thinking Awards" aimed at young people who suggest innovative and creative activities for others in their locality, and help deliver them? This award should be an incentive to young people to make a contribution to their neighbourhood. It would be part of my larger proposal to
1) To create a social enterprise company that will trade and become a self-financing company managed (in part) by the young people.
2) To establish an alternative education programme for excluded and disengaged young people.
3) To set up a Youth Internet Cafe providing affordable drinks and food, and a programme of activities that will engage young people, and be directed by them.
The Go Mad Thinking Awards would provide an incentive to engage young people in enterprising activities based in their community, and (perhaps) become directors of the social enterprise company.

Ken,

This looks like exactly the sort of project I believe is worthwhile in helping young people to make a difference.

Count me in for 10 x £65 and I will also provide a variety of learning materials once you get up and running. Send me your details.

best wishes

Hi Andy
I am currently trying to raise funds for a trip to Uganda to help rebuild and refurbish schools, i am embarking on this trip on the 24 July and feel your £65 would make a large difference to those who need it. I am funding the trip myself such as flights and injections etc so all the money i raise will go directly to the people who need it. I found out about what you are doing from a friend of mine who i play rugby with Peter Sheen and feel that your £65 will not only help those now but also future generations who use the schools we build.

Thanks for taking your time to read this, hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Andy

Just to let you know what Tim and I did at Superdrug with our two lots of £65.

Firstly we got Superdrug to match it and then I added some myself so we had £360.

We decided to pay it forward to the 36 members of our company 'Aspire' talent programme.

These people come from around the country and work at different levels and roles in Superdrug.

They have at least one thing in common - we believe they have the potential to rise through the company and take on key leadership roles in the future. Part of the programme provides them with monthly challenges over and above what they learn in work or on the programme.

One of the recent challenges was giving them individual cheques for £10 and a similar goal to the one you gave us....

'Use your capability to make a difference with this £10, use it wisely, help develop yourself and/or others and leave a legacy for others to benefit in a similar way'.

Some are going it alone, some have started finding ways of adding to it before using it and some have joined together to give them more scope to make a difference.

It has created such a buzz on this programme and through the company that we have already agreed that the next group of 40 people joining the Aspire programme be given the same opportunity. The £400 will be funded by Superdrug.

We will keep you updated on what difference the first group have made at the end of their programme in September.

Best regards,

Evan Gillespie and Tim Hughes

Hi Andy,

What an amazing feeling it must be to be able to make such a difference in peoples life!!!

My friend Michelle and I have just started work on a big Youth Project. To help young people learn new skills, and to plan and set goals for their lives. We will be working with people who have trouble reading and come from hard back grounds, with no hope of a better life. Our aim is to help Ordinary people acheeve Extraordinary things!!

This is a scary project as we have no money right now and we need to raise £65,000 to run this programme for the first year.We are running with the faith and hope we will find the funding. Would you be able to send us £65 towards the first step in turning these young people towards a brighter future?

Thank you!! One day I will have my own business and I will be able to
help others on there way and it will be the most amazing time of my life!!

Drew,

Yes I will send you £65 as I appreciate the effort that you are putting in to help others.

Becky,

Sounds interesting. Please e-mail me more details. What will the £65,000 be spent on? Where are you based? Do you need to raise the money to get started or are you already started?

Hi Andy,

I see that Gary McCarthy recently told you about Leicester Charity Link and that you seemed to be interested in how we manage to use donations to secure a five-fold boost to every £1 given. Did you ever look at our website and would you like more details?

It’s really quite simple - we have an expert knowledge of the many benevolent funds and trusts that have money to help people in need, especially children. Donations enable us to pay our staff to access these and we can consistently demonstrate that for every £1 donated we can secure £5 to all goes direct to the person. Each year we help around 5,000 local people and raise over £750,000 for them.

If you want to see a tangible gain from your donations then why not try donating £65 a week for a year??? We could us this to raise over £16,900 and help so many needy local families overcome a crisis.

Thanks Paul

Hi Paul,

Yes, I have looked at your website and your charity does do a wonderful job in raising funds to support people who need help in a crisis. However, I have decided not to support existing charities (including providing funds for people's wages) for a variety of reasons.

My main motivation is to encourage as many individuals to think possibilities and take personal responsibility for making a difference to others.

I wish you well. Keep making a difference.

What you wrote was very logical. However, what about this?
suppose you were to write a awesome post title? I am not saying your content isn't solid., but suppose you added a post title that makes people want more? I mean "Post a comment if you want 65" is a little boring. You should look at Yahoo's home
page and see how they create post headlines
to get people to open the links. You might try adding a video or a
picture or two to get readers interested about everything've written. Just my opinion, it would make your posts a little bit more interesting.

Hey would you mind letting me know which web host you're utilizing? I've loaded your blog in 3 completely different internet browsers and I must say
this blog loads a lot quicker then most. Can you suggest a
good web hosting provider at a reasonable price? Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
