Go MAD Giveaway

Andy Gilbert, Group Managing Director of Go MAD Thinking, entered the Poker Face TV quiz show to demonstrate the power of the Go MAD Thinking System. From over 10,000 people he successfully made the final three. Now he has decided to make a difference and give away his £65,000 prize winnings to help 1,000 people with £65 each.

However, you cannot ask for money to help yourself or support other charity fundraising, religious or political activities. This blog is about challenging you to use your thinking skills to make a positive difference, preferably sustainable, and help others to "Pay It Forward". What difference could you make? Please post your requests and comments.

Turning money into more money for good causes

I have given a couple of £65 away recently to people who have requested the money to buy wool in order to knit scarves which will then be sold to raise money for good causes. Both people are involving others in the workplace (Boots and Royal Bank of Scotland) to achieve their goals and I feel that this is a good example of people contributing time to match the £65 in order to leverage a greater benefit for the end user.

So what difference could you make? If you are seeking inspiration read some of the comments posted in response to my previous blog entries - especially about the bees.

Hi Andy,

We at the Leicester general maternity unit can't offer bees or knitting, but we do have a desperate need for some attention to our 'special room' which is used regularly by women who have still born infants. At the present time the cot in the room is clear plastic, scratched and rather clinical, however we were given a brand new beautiful wooden cot but not supplied a mattress. This would cost £11.00 from mothercare and would make the viewing of deceased babies a marginally better experience especially as photos are often taken by relatives at this point.

We would also value some information leaflets based on physiotherapy and pelvic floor exercises aimed specifically at women who have no live child. Not only would this educate women it would spread knowledge around the midwives working in this area. These I understand are £25.00 and not NHS funded.

Both of these items would 'make a difference' to peoples lives, so perhaps you could consider helping even if only for the cot mattress??

Hi Heather,

A cheque for £65 is in the post. Use the balance for other useful stuff for the maternity unit.

Hi Andy,

I met Peter Sheen yesterday and he recommended that I got in contact with you. I am trying to raise £1550 for the fulcrum challenge. If I can raise all of this money I will have the opportunity to go to India for 16 days and build a school or the foundations to a school in a few of the poorest villages in India. This will be a life changing experience in which I will meet many young and old people that I never thought I’d ever meet. For more information log on to http://www.fulcrum-challenge.org/.

I will be running many different events and I would that you would give kindly.

Thanks

Hi George,
Sorry to disappoint you, but your request falls under "existing charity fundraising", which I have decided not to support.

However, I wish you well in achieving your goal and working in India.
