It's my birthday - have a present!

Happy birthday,

I tend to celebrate being alive and the good things in life pretty much everyday. So for me, birthdays are just another great day. However, having opened my birthday cards and presents this morning, I thought it would be nice to give a few presents, of £65, this week to people who feel they deserve it. So imagine it is your birthday and you received £65, what would you like to spend it on?

For this week only, you can nominate yourself to receive £65. Just tell me the reason why you feel you deserve it and how you would spend it.

Next week I will pick a few worthy winners.

Happy Birthday Andy,
I would like to request the 65.00 for a well deserved night out with my beautiful wife. We have 3 young boys and my wife and I have very little time to spend together. This is the price of having children but we would love some "us" time so that we can get to know each other again. The money would pay for a night in a bed and breakfast. This woud be a suprise for the wife so this is a 2for 1 deal.
Thanks Dave

Happy Birthday Andy,
I would like to request the 65.00 for myself as I have suffered with a skin condition called Vitaligo since the age of 8. I am now 38 years old and my skin is now 99% white. I am of Afro-Carribean origin so you can imagine how distressing this level of pigmentation lose has been for me. I am going to Jamaica for, my cousin's wedding and I am very nervous about getting seriously sunburnt and how I look in the family photos. So I would like to request the 65.00 to have a tan applied so that it can help protect my skin from the sun and so that I don't stand out like a sore thumb in the wedding pics. I hope you have a good sense of humour as I have had to have over the years... because I bet you've never heard of a black person needing a tan before. I hope you can help and thank you for the opportunity. It has already helped me just to talk about this so the helping has begun.
Thank you sincerely,
Jackie

What a generous offer!
Andy you are really keeping us on our toes.
I would like the 65.00 to buy and put up a hand railing on the stairs at home as I had a nasty slip and fall during the Christmas break. I broke a rib, punctured a lung and spent nearly a week in hospital. I am very afraid of this happening again as I have still not recovered fully, as I am nearly 64 and I don't heal as fast as I used to.
This would be a great help and make me feel much safer in my own home.
Happy Birthday young man.
Cheers Alison

Birthday wishes to you Andy,
I would like to request the money to have a make over. I have become so bogged down with being a mum, a wife, a doer for others that I have forgotten about myself. I looked in the mirror and asked myself what I would do with the money and the answer was staring me in the face. This is just enough money so that I could put a load of laundry in the machine and have a lady I know come to my house and give me a complete facial and make over. This would benefit me and my family as a happy wife makes a happy husband and a happy mother makes happy children.
Hugs Rachael

Hello Andy,
I am a 20 year old student studying fine art at University and this would help me buy a frame for a piece I have nearly completed. I would then keep it for when I buy my first home as it would serve as a motivation for me to work hard and achieve success. I know I have been blessed with a talent but sometimes it's very difficult to stay focused and on track. This would remind me of my goal and what I can produce.
Thanks and Happy Birthday,
Jason

Hi Andy,
I would like the money to make some copies of a catalogue of my jewellery which I make from scratch. I am a qualified Fine Metal Jeweller and I lost my wife a few years ago. I have not done anything creative for a long time as the greiving process was more difficult than I could have imagined. Anyway I have started to get myself up and running again and I have started making fine pieces. I would like the money to print and circulate what I do so I can get myself back on the map again.
I hope this is something you would support. Happy Birthday.
Cheers Benjy

Dear Andy,
I have 5 year old twins, a boy and a girl. I would love the money to pay for a professional photo session with them so that we can have a fun day out and I can capture them young and fresh faced. They are growing up so fast and I have been working some long hours in the past. I have changed my job to spend more time with them but now I get less money. I would love to keep them like this forever but a great, fun, professional photo would do. They could have copies for when they grow up and the moment will be treasured. We have loads of snaps from my camera but this would be a real treat and an experience for the children.
Cheers Tina
Happy Birthday from me and the twins.

Happy Birthday Andy,
I would like the money to try a business idea I have been dreaming about for ages. I was told to check out your site and I have and it has given me the courage to do it. I would make the dessert, and pay for some packaging designs and generally get the ball rolling. This would be enough for me to start living a dream. My finances are tight and my family needs a better life. I hope you will invest in me and my dream. If things work out you will be hearing from me again and I will be reading your site regulary for tips and advice.
Thanks Drew
What did you do for your birthday?

Hiya Andy,
I have been working really hard to put on an annual Black Film Festival. Last year was a great success although I was let down by lots of funders and ended up doing most of it out of my own pocket. This year I want it to be even better so your 65 pounds would be used for me to treat myself to a new mobile phone as the one I have is worn out.I am constantly on the phone, making arrangements, seeking funding and booking meetings. If it was my birthday, that is what I would need.
Any support for this event would be appreciated.
Thank you and happy birthday
Dean

Hi Andy,
I would like to request the sixty five pounds for travel expenses to visit my sister in London. She is going through a very tough time at the moment and I would love to spend more time with her. We have been talking a lot on the phone but being with her in person would be so much better.
I can't say too much in this format as it is very personal but if I had the money to visit her again I would be there for her as soon as possible.
Thank you very much.

Dear Andy,
I would like to request the money to pay for a home help volunteer. I am 86 and most of immediate family are going abroad for a family wedding. I feel I am too old to travel so far any more and I am concerned about being left alone. I would like to stay in an old people's home for the 2 weeks but my children feel it would be too expensive and won't support me with this. So I think that if I could ask a volunteer to pop in and check on me over the 2 weeks then I could use the money to cover their expenses.
Thank you and I hope you had a great birthday. Enjoy life and youth, both are too often taken for granted.
With love
Vera

Hi Andy,
I have decided to sell my house and everything in it to return to college and study. I want to go to the 3rd world and help women who are involved in sex trafficking. I am currently a teacher and will be leaving my well paid job and going back to student life. I have had your success coaching from Myrah and it has changed my life and helped me make this life changing decision. Instead of the money I would like to find a selection of your books in my birthday pressie. I had my coaching over the telephone so it would be nice to see more of what she was refering to. I need these resources to take with me on my journey, as I have looked at the website and feel I need to know more, so that I can go on to inspire others and continue to make a difference. The money I make from selling my possessions will be used to finance my study and travel so I hope you don't think I have enough money. I will be broke and living on a wing and a prayer.
I hope you had a great birthday for a great guy.
Thank you kindly,
Antoinette

Hi Andy,
I am the manager of an after school group and we would like to request the money for some new board games for the children. We really think this would be a nice surprise for the 40 children as they could play together socailly and learn some social skills. They have had the same old toys and games for ages and they are well over due some new equipment. This is money well spent.
Thanks Brenda
Happy Birthday from us all!

Hi Andy and Happy Belated Birthday,
I have been running a meals on wheels service for many years for 55 elderly people in my local community. My staff and I have talked about your offer and we have descided we would like a manicure for our hands as they have taken a real beating over the years preparing all these meals.
That would be a great treat for the 4 of us.
Thanks Anne

Dear Andy,
I have been made redundant 4 times in my life and I am thinking of starting my own business. I would use the money to get some advice and support to set something up from a consultant. She is well qualified and has experience in the field I wish to explore.
I hope this would be the start of things to come for me as I have a young family and I want some security for us all.
Thanks very much,
Mrs. Levy

Dear Andy,
I would like the money to produce a booklet to help people suffering with hair lose, especially women. One of the ladies who got 65.00 from you came and brought her hat from me and told me about this whole thing which you are doing. I spoke to her at great length and when she left I thought maybe I could request the money to produce a booklet to help others.
I know this week is about personal requests but this is something I would really like to do.
Thank you very much and keep up the good work. I saw the lady you helped and what you are doing is truely making a difference.

Dear Andy,
I am a cleaner at a local church and would like to request the money for a personal cd player. I am hard of hearing and often I am in the building early in the money, working alone. The music would keep me company and as I don't think it would be a good idea to blast the music through the church, during the early hours of the morning. Plus I would be able to move it around with me as I clean the building.
I know this isn't as big as some of the other requests but it would make a real difference to me.

Hi Andy,
I made a request to you before and at the time I was unsuccessful. As the request was not for me I didn't really tell you my story. I was involved in a road traffic accident and have been suffering with whiplash for over 12 months now. I have been having physio and it is slowly making a difference. I am still in pain but have continued to look after the children I childmind as if I didn't it would cause problems for the parents and distress the children. I will have to take you up on your offer for a personal request and ask for the money for a neck and shoulder massage to ease some of the pain and discomfort.
Wishing you well
Gwen

Hello Andy,
I would like to request the money to buy a tree. I was given a tree from my grand-daughter as I paid for her christening and I was given it as a thank you. The idea was for us to grow it together and ask nanny to use the apples to make apple pie for everybody. Unfortunately, it has become infected in it's 3rd year and is dying. I would like to replace it before it dies completely and my grand-daughter notices it.
We have enjoyed it so much as we spend hours in the garden talking about nature and the environment. It was such a lovely gift and it meant a great deal to me.
I hope you can see the value in this request.

Dear Andy,
My partner and I do a lot for our community by collecting cans and recycling them. We run a little scheme where we use the money to help out local people in the community who are in need. We would like the money to produce some leaflets to let more of the community know what we are trying to do so that maybe they could help and support our scheme.
Thanks Rachael C.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY,
Well I am going to be the 65th person as it has worked out that I can now make a request for myself. Over the last 4 months I have been encouraging the community to think about helping others, then more others, then their community, the third world and then themselves. This has proven to be the most difficult of all.
We have all been following the website and experiencing your highs and lows. We all so wanted you to win but being nominated and a runner up was great. Some requests were successful - others weren't, but the thinking that has been done has been amazing! The difference the projects have made has been unbelieveable, for the people who recieved the money and those they helped.
My request is this. When we appeared on the show many moons ago I promised to take my children to Disney Land Paris. Well instead I paid for my parents to go on an overnight stay to a spa, as they have helped me so much through my hard times. I then caught up with some of debts and there was no money left. I have now saved enough to take the children and I to Disney but I could use a hand as I have a 2 and a 4 year old. This money would pay for me to take my mom who would love to come and help me.
I never ask people to do something I wouldn't do myself and as I have encouraged so many to put in requests, and helped them to do it, I feel I should too.
I hope you don't mind but I never look a gift horse in the mouth.
I have so enjoyed this challenge and have grown so much. I been continuing to coach and have seen the positive effects.
Thank you for letting me be apart of this venture and I hope I can help more in the future.
Hugs and kisses,
Myrah

Wow, I have been away for a week and received over 20 "birthday" requests - it must be easier to think about asking for money for yourself rather than others!

I have decided to give 10 birthday presents and these will go to the people who still decided to use the money to help others. Plus there were a few others where I thought the money could potentially make a real difference.

So sorry to disapoint you if you were not chosen, here are the winners:

Richard Fellows - let me know which books you would like.
Jackie - I empathise, as a fellow vertilgo sufferer, and share your sense of humour!
Alison - you absolutely need a handrail.
Arlene - get down to London to help your sister.
Antoinette - have a look at the website and let me know which books you would like. Best wishes with your trip.
Brenda - enjoy helping the kids.
Anne - you and the team deserve a treat after years of giving to others.
Viv - I hope the booklets help.
Rachel - keep up the good work with the recycling.

Which just leaves £65 for Myrah, who continues to help others make a difference - have a great trip with the kids.

For all those I have chosen, please send me your full name and address and I will send you a cheque (or get the books in the post).

What an enjoyable birthday!

Andy G.
